She’s BACK (and with lessons from 2023)

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone’s doing well and having an amazing day so far. I wanted to come back and say hi, because I realize I haven’t published a blog post in such a long time (read: years) and I am indeed alive and well, and I’d love to come back here more often.

A lot of people will wait until New Year’s Day to act on their resolutions, but I, on the contrary, will start when the moment strikes, when it feels hot and it’s right. There’s so much going on in this world, good, bad, and ugly, and there are a lot of things internally that sometimes keep me from speaking up, speaking out, or even publishing something small like this. Sometimes, it’s just me overthinking, and then indecision turns to inactivity, and that’s not good. So I’ll start here, and bring you along for the journey.

There are many lessons I’ve learned in 2024, and I’ll share some of them with you…

  1. Amazing things can and will happen to you, as long as you remain open for it and do your part in showing up. I’ve been able to travel quite a bit this year, going to places and meeting amazing people along the way, and you can’t do that by playing small, staying in your comfort zone or taking zero risks.
  2. Once a creative, always a creative. There are likely periods in your life where you feel more dormant when it comes to your creativity or things that you enjoy doing in an artistic sense. Your creative well will never run dry, and it’s important to take time to nurture your creative spirit. The flame will be rekindled, and you’ll create again. This post is proof of that.
  3. Support the people, places, and things that light your fire. Show up for them. Listen to them, go to them, and in turn, it will help you grow as a person as well.
  4. Progress is still progress, no matter how small. Rome wasn’t built overnight, as the saying goes, and the same goes for the grand vision for your life. All we really have is the here and now, and so consider what systems you have in place that assist your wellbeing and the goals you desire for yourself and for the world. A win is a win, so celebrate it.
  5. Never settle for less than what you deserve. The closing of a door, regardless of how it came to be, will help you in reaching your ultimate destination. It’s really not worth losing sleep over, instead, be grateful for what you have and know that better opportunities will come to you, as long as you remain open to it.

That’s some of what I’ve learned, and I’ll likely blog more about my lessons along with other things! I realize I still have quite a bit of readership despite the dormancy, so I’m thankful that you’ve taken the time out of your busy day to read this post.

Have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Write and Wrong

So, if you don’t know, I really love wordplay. I love a good pun and I love how you can liven up a story with some good word usage. I did say that I would write every day, or at least definitely try to, so here I am (whether you like it or not)!

Today’s topic is Write and Wrong, and how to be a more effective writer. I am still a rookie in the blogosphere, but I have many years of writing articles, essays, speeches, and more that have helped me to communicate my point very clearly. So today, I’ll share a few tips with you, dear readers, on how to communicate a bit better through your writing and to have a more receptive audience of whatever it is you choose to write about.

THE WRITE THING TO DO

  1. It’s great to speak aloud as you write, and not just stay in your own head. Although it is fine to be a quiet writer, it does help when you read what you write aloud, or have someone else do that for you. You will have a far better time conveying your message and you will hear what simply doesn’t sound right. If something is too word-y, too technical, or just off-putting, you’ll hear it when you (or someone else) says it out loud. You’ll also hear what parts can be confusing to whoever may be reading your work.
  2. I really hope you have a good understanding of whatever it is you choose to write about, otherwise, you run the risk of losing credibility. Credibility will help you stand out in your field, in your work, and your audience (notably, your beloved readers) will trust and like you even more. We all have wisdom in certain topics, and it’s great to share that knowledge with others (especially when you have years of experience and expertise).
  3. It is better to write because you want to make someone smile, share some wisdom, have people consider your point of view, BUT please be wary of writing for the sake of attention. This honestly brings the value of your work down and can make you look desperate, and no one wants to look desperate. Great work does come with time and patience, and you will be able to make people smile, share your wisdom, and have them consider your point of view.

THE WRONG THING TO DO

  1. Please don’t take yourself too too seriously and stifle all the fun and joy that writing can give you. Please don’t be so harsh on yourself that you can’t even bring yourself to writing the first chapter of your novel or book. We can be our own worst critics sometimes, and instead, we just need to realize that we are all learning and growing, and the world (although it is very big) does need your special insight that only you can deliver.
  2. Following all the rules ain’t fun. It’s good to learn the rules, y’all, but it’s also good to know which ones can be broken. You’ll likely find that it’s so much more fun to write this way, when you’re not afraid of the grammar grunts, the colloquialism kooks, the punctuation police, or whatever else.
  3. Don’t stifle your own creative spirit by neglecting it because you’re worried/afraid/frightened or whatever else. Your DREAMS ARE BIG, and if writing is what speaks to you, DO IT!

Thank you to all who have read this, and Happy Sunday! I myself am working on a book (you heard it here first, folks) and I hope that whenever I am finished with it, it will bring not only myself joy, strength, and happiness, but also to my readers as well.

A verse for you… Psalms 28:7 🙂
